The Real Inspector Hound
by Tom Stoppard
A ONE-NIGHT ONLY FREE PLAY READING
7:30 PM, February 28, 2008
A secluded English country manor house, ominous radio reports of a criminal on the loose, visitors behaving suspiciously, feuding theatre critics and an unidentified dead body hidden behind the sofa this masterpiece of a farce spoofs the whodunits popularized by Agatha Christie. Constructed as a play-within-a-play, The Real Inspector Hound opens with the critics, Moon and Birdboot, settling into their seats ready to review the latest mystery. As mists rise about the isolated manor, they find themselves literally drawn into the play and dangerously implicated in the lethal activities of the escaped madman.
The Real Inspector Hound will be performed in the Crosley Estate’s great room. Seating is limited to 80 for this play reading. You must reserve your tickets by calling the box office at 941-722-3244 or by visiting the box office inside the Manatee Convention Center at One Haben Blvd. in Palmetto. Seating is offered on a first-come, first-reserved basis. If you reserve tickets, please show up for the performance.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
by William Shakespeare
March 19-29, 2008
featuring the music of Blackmore's Night
Shakespeare's intertwined love polygons are intricate from the start Demetrius and Lysander both want Hermia but she only has eyes for Lysander. Hermia's father wants Demetrius for a son-in-law, and Helena bears an unreturned passion for Demetrius. Hermia and Lysander flee from the city under cover of darkness but are pursued by an enraged Demetrius (who is himself pursued by the enraptured Helena). In the forest, unbeknownst to the mortals, Oberon and Titania (king and queen of the fairies) are having a spat over a servant boy. The plot twists further when Oberon's head mischief-maker, Puck, runs amuck with a flower which causes people to fall in love with the first thing they see upon waking. Throw in a group of laborers preparing a play for the Duke's wedding and the complications become fantastically funny.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an outdoor performance so please dress according to weather conditions. All seating is on the bayside lawn and chairs are provided. Seating area is handicap accessible. No umbrellas, lawn chairs or carry-in alcoholic beverages are permitted. The performance is approximately two hours in length with one 15-minute intermission. Doors open one hour prior to show time.
